Everyone has to face rejection in interviews. But this is particularly frustrating when you know you would be great in the job. Most interviews don’t take time to give an honest feedback to the candidate.
Until you don’t know what mistake you are making, you can’t fix it.
If your interview went reasonably well and you got rejected, check if they had to do anything with any of the following interview mistakes.
1. They thought you won’t stay.
You studied marketing in college, interned for Media Company, your hobby is to write in a fashion blog and you are interviewing for some other position. In such cases, the recruiters fail to know what you really want to do. They don’t get a feeling that you will commit to the job and hence rejected you.
You have to make your interviewer want to work with you. In case your answers were too general or you weren’t able to relax and be yourself, the recruiter won’t have a lasting impression. You need to be able to stand out from the crowd.
Sometimes your non-verbal cues betrayed what you speak. Good posture, smiling when appropriate, making eye contact and leaning forward are the things you may have missed. Understand the difference between confidence and arrogance while answering.
3. You shared too much!
Why you left the previous position or feedback about your college or why there’s a gap? These are the questions which the interviewer asks for knowing your mentality.
Sometimes candidates share too much information or start describing some negative things. Always keep the answers brief and general. Remember that negative talk always distracts the interviewer from your positive qualities.
4. You missed asking questions at the end.
Who says- There are no stupid question? In a job interview, there are.
You need to be sure that you have appropriate questions to ask. It shows that you are interested, smart and have done some homework for the position.
